If you live in North Carolina, health reform and health insurance is so much to you as it is elsewhere. We have a huge population of seniors in our area, many of which are becoming increasingly concerned about the rising costs of health care and whether or not they will be able to pay their health plans in North Carolina. Now, all we hear about health care reform, but it is incredibly complex problem and many of us are confused by it. For example, people are concerned that health reform would mean a government takeover of full health care in which medical treatment should be rationed at the end of Medicare, and the end of private insurance. These myths, in general, are perpetuated by those benefiting from the status quo and seek to mislead people away from health reform.
A number of special interest groups are using scare tactics and the earlier myths to dissuade people from supporting the health care reform. President Obama has said that health reform will not make people like us to give up North Carolina’s health insurance plans that we are satisfied and not to cut Medicare benefits. At the same time, Obama defended his call for a government funded choice public health insurance to compete with private insurers, which indicates that Americans liked their private plans could keep them, but would have the option of enrolling in the government plan. He said that option would be to keep costs down, but not amount to a takeover of the government’s health because private insurance companies would not be able to compete with a government-funded plan. Obama gave the example of the Fed-Ex, UPS and the Postal Service. He said the Fed-Ex and UPS are doing very well, USPS is always having problems.
In an effort to combat what Obama administration considers misinformation about the issue of health reform, the White House has launched a Health Insurance Reform Reality Check website, with advisers Obama discussing aspects of health reform. Those who support health care reform believe a change is necessary to ensure that virtually all Americans have access to health insurance and will not be long-term economic stability in our country. Because of the loyal opposition, however, congressional action on health reform has diminished considerably.
The general basis for the opposition is that health reform will inevitably lead to government takeover of health care system and too expensive to maintain. As northern customers Carolina health insurance, we can do our part to know the facts and does not contribute to the false rumors that have some type of reform progress.
